Woven Especially For Kempt
Originally when we selected these colours, it was from one of the bigger fabric mills in Portugal. After a number of weeks spent tweaking fits, adding little details, making sure the wash was right, we were told by the mill that it would take a further 15 weeks to get the fabric.
We immediately went to visit the factory to see if they could show us other options from other mills that would be similar in weight, colour, and quality…but after a long search through countless swatch books, we couldn’t find a suitable alternative. We thought we would have to shelve the green and pink, but the owner asked us to take a little trip with him. He took us on a short car journey about 3km away from his factory to a small family-owned fabric mill who specialize in small quantities of beautiful fabrics.
A woman met us and took a look at our sample. She extracted tiny threads from the green and pink swatches and set about matching the colour.
Four weeks later, Kempt had its first 2 rolls of fabric, especially woven for us by this small family-owned mill.
In hindsight, I don’t think it could have worked out better. Working with a small family business, in an area of Europe that is producing some of the finest products for some of the best clothing and footwear brands operating today is something that Kempt is proud to be associated with and looks forward to many more years of similar collaborations.
